Get to know our Psychologists

Kim Kidson

Kim is a Clinical Psychologist with 25 years of experience, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). After graduating with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Medical University of South Africa in 1999, Kim founded the Family Therapy Centre in Glenvista, Johannesburg. With over 24 years in private practice, Kim works with children, teens, and adults, addressing a variety of presenting problems. She offers individual psychotherapy, play therapy, couple/marital therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and equine-assisted psychotherapy, along with training and workshops.

Leveraging her extensive experience as a competitive showjumper, Kim expanded into Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and founded the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Institute of South Africa (EAPISA) in 2007.

Whether in person, in the arena, or online, Kim works from an interpersonal psychotherapy model and is trained systemically. She is passionate about helping clients improve their functioning by focusing on personal and interpersonal growth, emotional health, and well-being.

Bernita Soares

Bernita is an Educational Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). She graduated in 2012 with a BA in Psychology, with her second major in Education. She later completed a BA Honours degree in Psychology in 2013. Bernita also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Inclusive Education (PGD in IE). After earning her Masters in Educational Psychology at the University of Johannesburg, she completed her internship at Epworth Children’s Village, where she worked in a school, with the children residing at the village, and with the broader community.

Bernita is also trained in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). Her training and experience have given her the opportunity to work with various age groups, including children, adolescents, and adults, as well as parents, couples, and families facing a variety of challenges.

Payment & Rate info

The Family Therapy Centre operates on a cash, card or Pay Stack basis, requiring upfront fees for therapy sessions and assessments. Since we are not contracted with Medical Aid, it is the client’s responsibility to claim reimbursement from their provider. Therapy sessions vary in duration and are charged at different rates, with additional fees for any time exceeded.


Assessment rates, which encompass various types, can be provided upon request. Please note that fees are subject to annual changes.
